Quality Award Gold Level - Ellowes Hall Sport College, Dudley

Friday, November 20, 2015

Ellowes Hall Sports College in Dudley has been awarded the Prospects’ Quality Award at the highest “Gold” level. The school was judged “Outstanding” by Ofsted during their latest inspection, indicating that pupils are very well equipped for the next stage of their education, training or employment.

Ellowes Hall has held a quality award for CEIAG for some years, and it was during the re-accreditation process in 2015 that assessors and the Accreditation Board were in unanimous agreement that this school should be invited to accept the Gold standard. The Gold award is only given for outstanding, innovative and embedded provision and celebrates the hard work of all the staff, led by careers leader and Assistant Head, Sue Jones.

Assessors noted many strengths, including the policy and oversight of CEIAG and the involvement of students in planning the comprehensive careers programme spanning all year groups. Students, staff and parents / carers have easy access to quality careers information, including an excellent online learning platform. The school also provides many opportunities for students to experience extra activities to support the regular career programme, ranging from an Army Cadet Force to a Career Academy for post-16 students. Assessors also noted that Sue Jones is already planning to improve on existing high standards and has identified a list of developments that she will be implementing before the next re-accreditation in 2018!

Sue Jones commented; “Working towards the Quality Awards helped us to identify our strengths and weaknesses through a detailed analysis of our provision, increasing the profile of Careers education at the school, and enabling us to build a framework for outstanding CEIAG. The process of gaining the Gold Award also enabled us to reflect on how we could further develop, broaden and enhance our provision, we used this to refine and extend our CEIAG development plans for the future. Looking back at our position before going through the awards, they have really helped us to provide the students with an extensive and comprehensive programme of quality careers education, information, advice and guidance, and assisted with meeting legislation, preparing for inspection and providing a better service”.
