Friday, September 25, 2015
Joseph Chamberlain Sixth Form College in Birmingham has become the first Sixth Form College to achieve the Quality Award for CEIAG from Prospects. The college, situated less than a mile away from central Birmingham serves the needs of 1,800 local full-time students aged 16-18 studying post-16 courses at all levels.
The standard of careers provision in the college was already good so Careers Co-ordinator Jas Lall wanted to take the opportunity to achieve the Quality Award to validate and celebrate existing good practice. She also used the framework to help her to identify any gaps in provision.
Assessor Michele Squire was obviously very impressed with the standard of careers work, commenting that it was “a pleasure to assess and see the amount of good practice that is going on in this institution.” She noted that careers is an integral part of college life, highly visible and accessible, that the service is led and delivered by a qualified and very enthusiastic member of staff with huge support from the senior management team. Michele went on to say that the programme of learning which is differentiated, encourages development and which inspires all students to aim high, that the Careers Centre is a high quality facility, valued by students and staff alike and complemented by a strong online resource offering.
Co-ordinator Jas reflected on the value of the award which celebrates: “a very successful outcome of the hard work and commitment required to provide high quality advice and guidance to a wide range of students and a profession benchmark to support any inspection process.
Thank you to all Prospects team for their support and guidance on how to complete Quality award standards.”
