Award-winning school works with Harvard University

Wednesday, October 29, 2014

A school, which was awarded the Leading Parent Partnership Award (LPPA), has been selected to participate in a project organised by Harvard University in conjunction with Bristol University.

Bishopsgarth School, in Stockton near Darlington, was selected because it has been using social media and text messages to engage with pupils’ parents and carers in an effort to improve results. A plaque was unveiled at the school to mark the occasion.

Ellen Reed, Assistant Headteacher, said: “We were selected as one of 34 schools across the country to take part and from next term we will be using text messages to provide information about homework, behaviour and upcoming tests.”

The LPPA is run by Prospects, and is a national award that provides a framework through which schools, early years settings and other educational organisations can deliver effective parental engagement from early years to post-16.
